The Economist has a good section that takes up the plight of old people in society, today: pretty good, I'd say compared to the past of pain and bed therapy! The point in "natural wisdom" is to bolster the parents' claim about the good old days (ha!) and the bright future for the young uns(yum!) ((see pp4 ff of the Special Report, October 8th issue, 2022)).
The youth with their dreams of themselves 30 years hence; the old thankful the new and innovative has transformed the past; and the parents giving orders to both under their control--to the extent they are controllable by the current generation! A blend of age groups making up society, altogether.
Meantime, the government can take out long-term loans at desirable rates of interest. After all, the old have finally learned to hoard their money for that rainy day, in which they don't cost much anyway, confined to the neighborhood they've grown to love and understand. Anyway, they know they can't borrow much, not even to pay for their funerals!
Meantime, the old are teaching the young to "calm down" with their enthusiasm and training their kids to become satisfied with their lot in life: saying, "It's not all that bad as ought-97. That was awful! You kids don't got it that bad, Matilda!"
And that pattern of social, human existence could last for million upon million of years. If someone lasted that long he/she might be very bored at the conclusion of the first million years. Aw, sweet boredom!
