A Defensive Force for the Organization of American States?

NATO has been so instrumental as to deter hostile aggressors from European shores, one wonders if the construct would not be useful in other regions of the world.

That SEATO did not take hold in South-West Asia, though it had been advanced at one time after WWII.

Then, might not the Organization of American States be considered as an institution that could benefit from a military arm?  I am thinking how Africa has made good use of its African Union to intercede in conflicts there.

My suggestion--given how long it has taken to remove the present government in Venezuela that has proven reluctant to transfer power to another administration.
