Agricultural arms of a state university can recommend the fruits and vegetables that are indigenous to the region. And just as important, can assure there's variety in the plants they choose. Of course, ag universities help farmers ward off diseases for farm's animals and crops.
The Caribbean region is acutely aware not too over produce one crop or another. I understand Latin America has some problems of over-production of particular regional crops, but as I say, ag universities can assure that a variety of plants are in the markets. If they find need to call local meetings to work with formers so as to assure variety, I'm sure they will be glad to do it.
My opinion.
