The Economist reports a defeated candidate for President of Botswana stepped aside, his party having ruled for 6 decades.

The country is rich in diamonds; and the ruling party, The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) was in power since its independence from Britain in 1966.  (Economist, November 9th issue, 2024, p. 36)

Seems like England trained its colony well in the ways of a democratic government, as the transition of governments was smooth.  The new President, Dumo Boko, a Harvard Grad, observed, "Democracy is alive here."

And on top of this, they're rich in diamonds!

My opinion.
