Already noted: African nations turning their backs on democracy.

It's so obvious: the reason--you need some education, at least, in order to make it work for you, the citizen.

Another way of putting it: the "democracies" established in African countries are in name only.   Mauritius is acknowledged as about the sole one that qualifies for the title.

Kenya is close and Zambia.  

What replaces some are military juntas like the one in Asia, Mayanmar (formerly, Burma).  

Many Americans are dissatisfied, according to the Economist, October 7th issue, p.10.  I think that's why former President Trump is still popular, because he wants an autocracy, it would seem.
